Going solar in Hawthorne
Inner Brisbane is full of character: Queenslanders, workers cottages and townhouses on small lots in places like Paddington, West End, New Farm and Bulimba, where neat installs and careful panel layout matter.
Brisbane covers everything from Queenslanders with tin roofs and tight inner-city lots to big brick homes in the southern and western suburbs. Every roof is different, which is why we measure and design each one on site.
Hawthorne is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.
- Many Hawthorne homes are character Queenslanders and older workers cottages with corrugated iron roofs. Tin roofs are quick to mount on, and we keep conduit runs neat and out of sight on heritage-style facades.

Hawthorne: history and local area
Farms covered this stretch in the 1860s. One story says butcher William Baynes bought land in 1875 and named it after Hawthorn in Melbourne, where he had lived. Another credits the hawthorn bushes he planted. Ferry and tram services helped it grow, and estates came up for sale from 1885 right through to 1935.
No major arterial roads pass through, which keeps things quiet for a suburb just 6.5 km east of the city. The Hawthorne Cinema, open since the 1940s, anchors a strip of cafés and boutiques. Hawthorne Park covers about 7.2 hectares with sports fields and is home to the Morningside Panthers. A CityCat terminal serves the river, and Lourdes Hill College is the local girls' school.
Traditional Queenslanders on tree lined avenues usually have tin roofs well suited to panels, but street trees can cast shade, so checking roof exposure across the seasons pays off.
