Going solar in Spring Hill

Inner Brisbane is full of character: Queenslanders, workers cottages and townhouses on small lots in places like Paddington, West End, New Farm and Bulimba, where neat installs and careful panel layout matter.

Brisbane covers everything from Queenslanders with tin roofs and tight inner-city lots to big brick homes in the southern and western suburbs. Every roof is different, which is why we measure and design each one on site.

Spring Hill is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.

  • Many Spring Hill homes are character Queenslanders and older workers cottages with corrugated iron roofs. Tin roofs are quick to mount on, and we keep conduit runs neat and out of sight on heritage-style facades.

Spring Hill: history and local area

Springs that topped up Brisbane's early water supply gave this spot its first name, Spring Hollow. Once well to do citizens began building on the ridge, Spring Hill took over. It dates from the 1840s, making it one of the city's earliest suburbs. Churches followed in 1862, 1874 and 1876, and trams ran from 1903 until 1947. The Old Windmill, built in 1828, is older than the suburb itself.

The suburb follows a ridge just north of the CBD, with Wickham Park and the Old Windmill at one end. Spring Hill Baths are said to be the oldest public baths in Queensland. Brisbane Grammar, Brisbane Girls Grammar and St Joseph's College are all here. Many 19th century houses survive and lots are heritage listed, although offices and apartments have replaced some older buildings.

Heritage listed 19th century houses on a ridge can catch good sun, but listing rules and nearby office blocks may limit panel placement, so a careful layout that keeps the streetscape intact is worth planning.
