Going solar in Herston

Inner Brisbane is full of character: Queenslanders, workers cottages and townhouses on small lots in places like Paddington, West End, New Farm and Bulimba, where neat installs and careful panel layout matter.

Brisbane covers everything from Queenslanders with tin roofs and tight inner-city lots to big brick homes in the southern and western suburbs. Every roof is different, which is why we measure and design each one on site.

Herston is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.

  • Many Herston homes are character Queenslanders and older workers cottages with corrugated iron roofs. Tin roofs are quick to mount on, and we keep conduit runs neat and out of sight on heritage-style facades.

Herston: history and local area

Europeans arrived in the 1850s. Sir Robert Herbert and John Bramston combined their surnames to name their farmhouse Herston, and the suburb kept the name. Churches went up through the 1920s, and trolleybuses ran from 1953 to 1968. When the Royal Children's Hospital closed in 2014, its land became the Herston Quarter, declared a Priority Development Area in 2016.

The eastern side is taken up by a major hospital precinct, including the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital and the medical research institute. Ballymore Stadium in the north west is home to rugby union, and Victoria Park offers golf and a heritage clubhouse from 1931. The rest of the suburb is mostly residential. A busway station and Brisbane Metro buses link to the city 2.9 km away.

Homes in the residential pockets sit close to large hospital and redevelopment buildings, so checking for shade from taller neighbours comes first, with daytime heavy households getting the best return from rooftop panels.
