Going solar in Wilston
Brisbane's west takes in leafy riverside suburbs like Indooroopilly, Kenmore and Chapel Hill, the Centenary suburbs, and hillier, tree-lined streets around The Gap, Ashgrove and Ferny Grove where shading needs careful planning.
Brisbane covers everything from Queenslanders with tin roofs and tight inner-city lots to big brick homes in the southern and western suburbs. Every roof is different, which is why we measure and design each one on site.
Wilston is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.
- Many Wilston homes are character Queenslanders and older workers cottages with corrugated iron roofs. Tin roofs are quick to mount on, and we keep conduit runs neat and out of sight on heritage-style facades.

Wilston: history and local area
William Wilson MLC settled here in 1868 and built Wilston House around 1876, naming it after his family home in Enniskillen, Ireland. John Stevenson took over the land in 1884 and cut it into lots, and houses followed through the 1880s. The Methodist church opened in October 1913, and St Columba's Primary started three years later.
Small but busy, Wilston covers 1.4 square kilometres with about 4,100 residents, 5.1 km by road north of the city. Wilston Village on Kedron Brook Road has the local shops, and the station is on the Ferny Grove line. Seven parks include Hinkler Park and Eildon Hill Reserve, and sporting clubs range from Grange Thistle football to Wilston Crocs swimming.
Blocks are small and tightly packed, so a neighbour's roofline or a big tree can shade panels. Older timber homes with tin roofs are common across these inner north streets and are generally straightforward to fit out.
