Going solar in Gilberton

The northern Gold Coast is one of the fastest growing parts of Queensland, from the canals of Runaway Bay and Hope Island to new estates in Coomera, Pimpama and Ormeau and semi-rural blocks around Wongawallan.

Over half of Gold Coast houses already have rooftop solar, so a lot of our work here is batteries, upgrades and fixing tired systems, alongside new installs in growth areas like Coomera, Pimpama and Ormeau.

Gilberton is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.

  • Plenty of Gilberton properties are on acreage, which opens up ground-mounted arrays, sheds and larger systems. Rural feeders also see more outages, so battery backup is popular here.

Gilberton: history and local area

Gilberton has always been farming country rather than a town. Only 31 people lived here at the 2021 census, spread across eight square kilometres of mostly cane land. Drainage works linked to the Pimpama River have shaped how the flat ground is used. Change is on the horizon, though, with a corridor set aside through the area for the Coomera Connector road, planned to be finished by 2031.

The ground here is flat and low, sitting under 10 metres above sea level, and is crossed by Sandy Creek, Halfway Creek and other small waterways. Sugarcane covers most of it, with some cattle grazing on native vegetation in the west. Goldmine Park and Prairie Reserve are the two parks. There are no schools, so children go to Woongoolba, Ormeau or Norfolk Village for primary and Beenleigh or Ormeau Woods for high school.

On low-lying cane country close to creeks, it is sensible to mount inverters and batteries well above ground level, and open farm roofs usually catch full sun across the whole day.
