Going solar in Hastings Point
The Tweed runs from the border at Tweed Heads down the coast to Pottsville and inland along the river to Murwillumbah and Uki, a mix of beach houses, river-flat towns and hinterland acreage.
From the river towns around Murwillumbah to the beach suburbs of Kingscliff, Cabarita and Pottsville, the Tweed sits on the NSW side of the border, so it runs on Essential Energy's network and NSW energy rules.
Hastings Point is on Essential Energy's network, so your system is designed to Essential Energy's connection rules (typically a 5kW export limit) and NSW feed-in tariffs. We handle the network application for you.
- Being close to the water, Hastings Point gets salt-laden sea breezes. We use corrosion-resistant racking, stainless fixings and panels and inverters rated for coastal sites, and we design to the local wind loading.

Hastings Point: history and local area
Aerial photos tell part of Hastings Point's story: between 1947 and 1962 its foredunes stood up to 16 metres high, but by 1977 they had dropped to between 6 and 9 metres. The area is traditional country of the Ngandowal and Minyungbal-speaking Bundjalung people and today forms part of Tweed Shire on the far north coast of NSW.
Hastings Point borders the South Pacific Ocean, with Cudgera Creek, Pottsville, Dum Dum, Round Mountain and Bogangar as neighbouring localities. At the 2011 census it had 582 residents and a median age of 62, well above the national median of 37. It sits in the Tweed state electorate and the federal Division of Richmond.
With an older population, many residents are home through the day and can use solar output directly, while beachfront salt air makes corrosion-resistant fixings a sensible choice.
