Going solar in Casuarina

The Tweed runs from the border at Tweed Heads down the coast to Pottsville and inland along the river to Murwillumbah and Uki, a mix of beach houses, river-flat towns and hinterland acreage.

From the river towns around Murwillumbah to the beach suburbs of Kingscliff, Cabarita and Pottsville, the Tweed sits on the NSW side of the border, so it runs on Essential Energy's network and NSW energy rules.

Casuarina is on Essential Energy's network, so your system is designed to Essential Energy's connection rules (typically a 5kW export limit) and NSW feed-in tariffs. We handle the network application for you.

  • Being close to the water, Casuarina gets salt-laden sea breezes. We use corrosion-resistant racking, stainless fixings and panels and inverters rated for coastal sites, and we design to the local wind loading.
  • Newer homes in Casuarina usually have clean, unshaded roofs and modern switchboards, which keeps installs quick. Estate covenants rarely restrict solar, but we check before we quote.

Casuarina: history and local area

Casuarina lies on the traditional lands of the Ngandowal and Minyungbal-speaking Bundjalung people. The written history of its development is thin, but it is part of the Tweed Coast, neighbouring Kingscliff, Cabarita Beach, Cudgen, Kings Forest and Tanglewood. It falls under Tweed Shire Council and shares the 2487 postcode with Kingscliff and Chinderah.

At the 2021 census Casuarina had about 3,260 residents with a median age of 41. It sits close to the Pacific Ocean, roughly 17 km south of Tweed Heads and 117 km from Brisbane. Around 79 per cent of residents were born in Australia. The locality belongs to the Tweed state electorate and the federal Division of Richmond.

Being close to the Pacific, homes in Casuarina face salty onshore air, so marine-grade mounting hardware and panels tested for salt mist are worth asking about when comparing quotes.
