Going solar in Pottsville
The Tweed runs from the border at Tweed Heads down the coast to Pottsville and inland along the river to Murwillumbah and Uki, a mix of beach houses, river-flat towns and hinterland acreage.
From the river towns around Murwillumbah to the beach suburbs of Kingscliff, Cabarita and Pottsville, the Tweed sits on the NSW side of the border, so it runs on Essential Energy's network and NSW energy rules.
Pottsville is on Essential Energy's network, so your system is designed to Essential Energy's connection rules (typically a 5kW export limit) and NSW feed-in tariffs. We handle the network application for you.
- Being close to the water, Pottsville gets salt-laden sea breezes. We use corrosion-resistant racking, stainless fixings and panels and inverters rated for coastal sites, and we design to the local wind loading.

Pottsville: history and local area
Bill Potts owned the first house in town, and the place was originally called Potts Point after him. The name was later changed to Pottsville to avoid confusion with Potts Point in Sydney. Growth since then has been steep: from 245 residents in 1971 to 1,987 in 1996, 5,735 in 2011 and 7,209 by 2021.
Housing growth has come largely through estates such as Pottsville Waters, Koala Beach, Seabreeze and Black Rocks Estate. Children attend Pottsville Beach Public School or St Ambrose Primary School. The town falls within Tweed Shire in the Northern Rivers region, on the traditional lands of the Ngandowal and Minyungbal-speaking Bundjalung people.
Estate homes built in recent decades often have large, simple roof planes and modern switchboards, which suit straightforward solar installs and make adding a battery later less complicated.
