Going solar in Cabarita Beach
The Tweed runs from the border at Tweed Heads down the coast to Pottsville and inland along the river to Murwillumbah and Uki, a mix of beach houses, river-flat towns and hinterland acreage.
From the river towns around Murwillumbah to the beach suburbs of Kingscliff, Cabarita and Pottsville, the Tweed sits on the NSW side of the border, so it runs on Essential Energy's network and NSW energy rules.
Cabarita Beach is on Essential Energy's network, so your system is designed to Essential Energy's connection rules (typically a 5kW export limit) and NSW feed-in tariffs. We handle the network application for you.
- Being close to the water, Cabarita Beach gets salt-laden sea breezes. We use corrosion-resistant racking, stainless fixings and panels and inverters rated for coastal sites, and we design to the local wind loading.

Cabarita Beach: history and local area
The first big development here was the original Cabarita Hotel, which opened its doors on 17 December 1960. That building has since been replaced by a modern structure of glass, chrome and concrete. Locally, Cabarita Beach and Bogangar are often used interchangeably, and more residents tend to go with the Cabarita name.
This is a thin strip of beachside land east of Tweed Coast Road, just 1.4 square kilometres in area and home to about 100 people in 2021. Norries Headland and its rocky cliffs break up the beach, and there is a well-known surf spot north of the headland. Tweed Heads is about 20 km to the north.
Right on the ocean, roofs here take a steady dose of salt spray, so stainless or marine-rated fixings and the odd freshwater rinse help keep a system producing well for its full life.
