Murrumba Downs: history and local area

Thomas Petrie bought the Murrumba property around 1858, and his family farmed this land for close to a century. The name comes from a Yuggera word for a good place. Suburban growth followed much later: Undurba State School opened in 1978, Living Faith Lutheran Primary arrived in 2001, and Murrumba State Secondary College took its first students in 2012.

Water sets the edges here, with Fresh Water Creek to the north, the North Pine River to the south and the Bruce Highway along the eastern side. Kallangur sits just west. The 10 hectare John Oxley Reserve gets used for bushwalks, picnics and kids' activities, and since 2016 locals have had their own station on the Redcliffe Peninsula line. Brisbane's CBD is roughly 25 km south.

Homes backing onto the creek and river corridors can pick up afternoon shade from tall trees, so it pays to check roof aspect and shading across the day before deciding on panel count and placement.
