Going solar in Ormeau Hills
The northern Gold Coast is one of the fastest growing parts of Queensland, from the canals of Runaway Bay and Hope Island to new estates in Coomera, Pimpama and Ormeau and semi-rural blocks around Wongawallan.
Over half of Gold Coast houses already have rooftop solar, so a lot of our work here is batteries, upgrades and fixing tired systems, alongside new installs in growth areas like Coomera, Pimpama and Ormeau.
Ormeau Hills is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.
- Newer homes in Ormeau Hills usually have clean, unshaded roofs and modern switchboards, which keeps installs quick. Estate covenants rarely restrict solar, but we check before we quote.

Ormeau Hills: history and local area
Ormeau Hills borrows its name from neighbouring Ormeau, itself named after Major Alexander Jenyns Boyd's 1860s estate. Growth here has been fast and recent. The census counted just 1,212 people in 2011, then 3,148 in 2016 and 4,521 by 2021, as new streets spread across the lower eastern side of the locality.
The land climbs from east to west. Suburban housing covers the flatter eastern side, 10 to 30 metres above sea level, while the centre rises to around 130 metres with rural residential blocks. The west is mountainous and undeveloped, topped by Davis Hill at 298 metres with a radio mast on its summit. There are no schools in the locality, so children travel to Pimpama and Ormeau.
Homes on the hillier middle and western slopes can lose sun to the hillside at certain times of day, so roof orientation and shading need a proper look, while the flatter eastern estates usually make for simpler installs.
