Going solar in The Gap
Brisbane's west takes in leafy riverside suburbs like Indooroopilly, Kenmore and Chapel Hill, the Centenary suburbs, and hillier, tree-lined streets around The Gap, Ashgrove and Ferny Grove where shading needs careful planning.
Brisbane covers everything from Queenslanders with tin roofs and tight inner-city lots to big brick homes in the southern and western suburbs. Every roof is different, which is why we measure and design each one on site.
The Gap is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.

The Gap: history and local area
Turrbal people lived in this once heavily forested valley. Timber cutters came first, then farmers, with a crown lease in 1851 and freehold sales from 1858. Nearby Enoggera Dam was built in 1866 to supply Brisbane. After World War I, land was split into small farms for returned soldiers, some farmed until the 1980s, and the 800 lot Royal Park Estate was advertised in 1927.
Sitting in the valley between Mount Coot-tha and Enoggera Hill, The Gap is home to about 17,300 people, around 10 km north-west of the city. It borders Enoggera Reservoir, and the main entry to D'Aguilar National Park is at Walkabout Creek. More than 45 parks, the Gap Village shops, Ashgrove Golf Club and a state high school opened in 1960 round out the suburb.
A valley lined with bushland and big trees means morning or afternoon sun can be cut short on some roofs, so a shading check matters. The Gap's wide streets of family homes otherwise suit standard rooftop systems.
