Going solar in Upper Kedron

Brisbane's west takes in leafy riverside suburbs like Indooroopilly, Kenmore and Chapel Hill, the Centenary suburbs, and hillier, tree-lined streets around The Gap, Ashgrove and Ferny Grove where shading needs careful planning.

Brisbane covers everything from Queenslanders with tin roofs and tight inner-city lots to big brick homes in the southern and western suburbs. Every roof is different, which is why we measure and design each one on site.

Upper Kedron is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.

  • Plenty of Upper Kedron properties are on acreage, which opens up ground-mounted arrays, sheds and larger systems. Rural feeders also see more outages, so battery backup is popular here.

Upper Kedron: history and local area

Community life centred on Upper Kedron Hall, opened on Cedar Creek Road in 1890, and Cedar Creek Cemetery, opened in 1898. For a long time it remained a quiet corner on Brisbane's fringe. That changed in 2014, when Cedar Woods Properties paid 68 million dollars for 228 hectares of the remaining land, planning up to 980 lots with 91 hectares kept as open space.

Two tributaries of Kedron Brook, Kedron Creek and Cedar Creek, begin in this suburb on the edge of Brisbane Forest Park. Around 5,800 people live here, about 12 km from the city. New lots range from bush blocks to terrace-style homes. There are no schools within the suburb, so families use Ferny Grove State School and Ferny Grove State High.

New homes going up on the big estate can be designed with roof space and battery wiring planned in, while bush blocks on the forest edge may need careful panel placement to avoid tree shade.
