Going solar in Wongawallan

The northern Gold Coast is one of the fastest growing parts of Queensland, from the canals of Runaway Bay and Hope Island to new estates in Coomera, Pimpama and Ormeau and semi-rural blocks around Wongawallan.

Over half of Gold Coast houses already have rooftop solar, so a lot of our work here is batteries, upgrades and fixing tired systems, alongside new installs in growth areas like Coomera, Pimpama and Ormeau.

Wongawallan is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.

  • Plenty of Wongawallan properties are on acreage, which opens up ground-mounted arrays, sheds and larger systems. Rural feeders also see more outages, so battery backup is popular here.

Wongawallan: history and local area

Surveyor Dixon first marked this country as Mount Goulburn, honouring Henry Goulburn. The name was later changed to Wongawallan, thought to join two Aboriginal words, wonga for pigeon and walla for water. Settler John Wilkinson was killed at Wongawallan Creek in 1876, and the grave of pioneer Elizabeth Welch still sits in Welch Pioneer Park. Farms and homes grew up along the creek valleys, while the steep tops were mostly left alone.

This is hill country. Mount Wongawallan climbs to 378 metres in the north-east, and Tamborine Creek flows down to meet Wongawallan Creek near Welch Pioneer Park before the water heads on to the Coomera River. Tamborine-Oxenford Road is the main route through. There are 22 parks and reserves, among them the Eagle Heights and Wongawallan conservation areas. Kids travel to Upper Coomera or Tamborine Mountain for school, as there is none in the locality.

Homes tucked into creek valleys below wooded ridges can lose early or late sun, so it pays to check panel placement against the hillside and tree line before choosing system size or adding a battery.
