Going solar in Burringbar
The Tweed runs from the border at Tweed Heads down the coast to Pottsville and inland along the river to Murwillumbah and Uki, a mix of beach houses, river-flat towns and hinterland acreage.
From the river towns around Murwillumbah to the beach suburbs of Kingscliff, Cabarita and Pottsville, the Tweed sits on the NSW side of the border, so it runs on Essential Energy's network and NSW energy rules.
Burringbar is on Essential Energy's network, so your system is designed to Essential Energy's connection rules (typically a 5kW export limit) and NSW feed-in tariffs. We handle the network application for you.
- Plenty of Burringbar properties are on acreage, which opens up ground-mounted arrays, sheds and larger systems. Rural feeders also see more outages, so battery backup is popular here.

Burringbar: history and local area
Thomas Ewing, the first European owner, put up the area's first colonial building in 1888. Burringbar Station opened on the Murwillumbah line in 1894 and became an important goods stop until it closed in 1967. The name is said to come from a Yugambeh-Bundjalung word for a long war boomerang, with the ending 'bah' possibly meaning 'place of'.
Home to about 880 people in 2021, Burringbar keeps its shops along Burringbar Broadway, alongside Masterson Park, memorials to both world wars and a primary school. The Northern Rivers Rail Trail now has a stop in town. It is roughly 44 km from Tweed Heads and around 16 km from Murwillumbah, in the Tweed state electorate.
Being a good distance back from the coast, homes here face less salt corrosion than beachside suburbs, which opens up a wider choice of standard panels and mounting hardware.
