Going solar in Condong
The Tweed runs from the border at Tweed Heads down the coast to Pottsville and inland along the river to Murwillumbah and Uki, a mix of beach houses, river-flat towns and hinterland acreage.
From the river towns around Murwillumbah to the beach suburbs of Kingscliff, Cabarita and Pottsville, the Tweed sits on the NSW side of the border, so it runs on Essential Energy's network and NSW energy rules.
Condong is on Essential Energy's network, so your system is designed to Essential Energy's connection rules (typically a 5kW export limit) and NSW feed-in tariffs. We handle the network application for you.
- Low-lying pockets of Condong sit inside council flood mapping. Where it matters we mount inverters and batteries above the flood planning level and keep isolators easy to reach.
- Plenty of Condong properties are on acreage, which opens up ground-mounted arrays, sheds and larger systems. Rural feeders also see more outages, so battery backup is popular here.

Condong: history and local area
Condong grew up around a sugar cane mill that CSR Limited opened in 1880. Since 1978 the mill has been run by the NSW Sugar Milling Co-operative, and its product ends up on shelves as Sunshine Sugar. The name comes from Bundjalung, taken from a nearby hill, and has been recorded as meaning 'blue fig' or possibly 'big swamp'.
This small village had 298 residents at the 2011 census, with a median age of 43. It sits only about 5 metres above sea level, around 4 km from Murwillumbah and 26 km from Tweed Heads. The mill remains the defining feature of the place. Condong belongs to the Tweed state electorate and the Division of Richmond.
Sitting low in cane country at around 5 metres above sea level, homes here should place inverters and batteries well above floor level and plan for quick isolation if floodwater rises.
