Going solar in Dunbible
The Tweed runs from the border at Tweed Heads down the coast to Pottsville and inland along the river to Murwillumbah and Uki, a mix of beach houses, river-flat towns and hinterland acreage.
From the river towns around Murwillumbah to the beach suburbs of Kingscliff, Cabarita and Pottsville, the Tweed sits on the NSW side of the border, so it runs on Essential Energy's network and NSW energy rules.
Dunbible is on Essential Energy's network, so your system is designed to Essential Energy's connection rules (typically a 5kW export limit) and NSW feed-in tariffs. We handle the network application for you.
- Plenty of Dunbible properties are on acreage, which opens up ground-mounted arrays, sheds and larger systems. Rural feeders also see more outages, so battery backup is popular here.

Dunbible: history and local area
Dunbible was a small farming community from the late 1880s, running dairy cattle, beef and pigs. When Dunbible Station opened on Christmas Eve 1894 on the Murwillumbah line, farmers could send dairy produce to bigger markets through the Norco Co-operative. The name is thought to come from the Bundjalung word djunbi, a black apple tree, though a local tale involves a pastor dropping his Bible.
Its standout landmark is the heritage-listed Dunbible Creek Bridge, a 65-metre steel truss span from 1894 designed by Henry Deane and restored in 2022. The Northern Rivers Rail Trail now runs through. At the 2011 census 329 people lived here, on Coodjingburra clan land within Tweed Shire and the 2484 postcode.
Small farms with a dairy or cattle history often have large shed roofs that make good solar platforms, keeping panels off the house and powering pumps and workshop gear during the day.
