Going solar in Sumner
Brisbane's west takes in leafy riverside suburbs like Indooroopilly, Kenmore and Chapel Hill, the Centenary suburbs, and hillier, tree-lined streets around The Gap, Ashgrove and Ferny Grove where shading needs careful planning.
Brisbane covers everything from Queenslanders with tin roofs and tight inner-city lots to big brick homes in the southern and western suburbs. Every roof is different, which is why we measure and design each one on site.
Sumner is on the Energex network. Most homes can export up to 5kW per phase on a standard connection, and newer dynamic connections allow more. We size your inverter to get the most from those limits and lodge the Energex application for you.

Sumner: history and local area
Sumner Road, along the northern boundary, gave the suburb its name, and the road itself is linked to a lawyer who spent weekends at his property at its end. The land was once Wolston Estate farmland, auctioned in 1901, and became part of the Centenary Project in 1959. The name was made official in 1969, and the memorial gardens opened in 2001.
Two halves make up Sumner: homes in the west and the Sumner Park industrial estate in the east. Only about 600 people lived here in 2021. The 16 hectare Centenary Memorial Gardens crematorium and cemetery is on Wacol Station Road, and Spine Street Park is one of three local parks. Some areas flooded in 2011.
The industrial estate's large sheds can host commercial-scale arrays, while homes in the west that sit in areas affected by the 2011 floods should plan equipment heights with that in mind.
